Vapour recovery

Vapour recovery - Experience is our advantage

Consulting, development and production from a single source for economical system solutions

Vapour Recovery phase II is stipulated by legal regulations in many European countries. The objective is to return the petrol vapour back into the storage tank, which otherwise would escape into the environment when re-fueling a car. Consequently, vapour recovery systems with vapour recovery pumps are installed into the fuel forecourt-dispensing pump.

In Germany, since the beginning of 2003 the vapour recovery systems have been additionally equipped with a vapour recovery monitoring system. The purpose of this additional process is to detect problems promptly so reducing pump down time and ensuring a constantly high vapour recovery rate.

Vapour recovery pump from Dürr Technik is a proven standard product providing a failure-free operating vapour recovery system. A constant volume flow rate is maintained throughout the whole lifetime of the pump.

In Europe decentralized active vapour recovery systems have gained a foothold due to higher efficiencies. The vapour recovery pump is the decisive component for a trouble-free working vapour recovery system. With the MEX vapour recovery pump, Dürr Technik offers a high-quality and very safe solution. Our quality and reliability is guaranteed by various certifications: ATEX, TÜV, QS, CN-EX.

The following diagram shows the main components of a typical vapour recovery system without vapour recovery monitoring.

This is how the vapour recovery system works

The function is based on the regulation of the flow rate ratio of dispensed petrol to extracted petrol vapour. This ratio in Europe is set to 1:1 (proportionality) and controlled by a mechanical (1) or electrical (2) proportional valve. Systems with speed control (3) do not require proportional valves.

Reliable and economical: MEX round-the-clock

  • Legal requirements and automatic monitoring devices place the highest demands on the reliability of the vapour recovery systems. For legal reasons, the operator only has a limited period of time before the dispenser is switched off if there is a problem with the vapour recovery system. In Germany, it is 72 hours.
  • A reliable vapour recovery pump with a constant flow rate is essential for a trouble-free vapour recovery system.
  • Dürr Technik has been manufacturing the MEX piston pump specially developed for vapour recovery since 1994. Its reliability and flexibility are demonstrated by hundreds of thousands of units in use worldwide.
