Since 2008, Dürr Technik has been actively supporting the construction of a school in a rural area of Srikakulam / India, approx. 400 km south-east of Hyderabad. There, Dalit-children, who normally have no access to education at all, are taught.
Although the caste system has been abolished in India, it is ingrained in the culture of the Indian people and their society. This is why these Dalit “Untouchable” children are still exposed to massive discrimination in all areas of life.
An English school education is the only chance these children have to escape from the system. At the moment, 110 boys and girls are educated in Marripadu Village. The aim is to gradually expand the school so that one day 450 students can be educated. Besides school lessons, they also have access to medical supplies and small loans for families.
In August 2011, a delegation from Dürr Technik were greatly impressed with the success of the project.
